The Stand alone installation of InstaCode is recommended when the computer in question will
be the only computer within the local area network operating InstaCode or is not always connected to a local area network.
Installing InstaCode
- Run ICSetup.exe with administrative rights (either downloaded or from the CD)
- Select the option "Stand alone"
- The installation process will automatically detect if a previous version has been installed and handle the importing of any custom data (Master key systems, Clients etc.).
- When InstaCode is run for the first time the program will prompt for the registration. Enter the Company Name, Options and Registration exactly as it is provided to you.
- InstaCode shall then prompt you to activate the PC.
- Check that all the shortcut icons open the correct version of InstaCode as some shortcut
icons that were manually created, may still link to the old version
Activating InstaCode
- Activation can be completed automatically by InstaCode when the computer is connected to the internet by selecting the option "Activate now over the Internet".
- If there is no internet connection from that computer or the connection is blocked select the "Activate now by telephone" option.
This will display your registration details and a generated Activation Reference.
- You may either:
Use another computer to browse to https://activate.whsoftware.com/Activation.php
and enter your registration details with the Activation reference
Or contact your reseller who will do this for you.
This will return to you the Activation Code.
- Enter the Activation Code and click Activate.
Supported Operating Systems
InstaCode Network / Multi-user installations make use of an advanced Windows share that the
installation process automatically configures. Consequently WH Software only supports the
following operating systems to act as an InstaCode Data Server:
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows Server 2008
- Windows XP Professional
- Windows Vista Business
- Windows Vista Ultimate
- Windows 7 Business
- Windows 7 Ultimate
Network / Multi User Installations
Upgrading older versions
When installing the new InstaCode any custom data in the previous version will automatically
be upgraded and imported into the new InstaCode. This process can happen only once. If you
currently have custom data stored on multiple computers, the data must first be "merged" on
to just one "Primary" computer.
For this exercise, careful consideration should be given to which computer shall be used
as the Primary computer in order to minimise the amount of data entry that will be needed to
be done. As it is not possible to export Favourites, Cards or Master key systems, these types
of data will need to be manually entered into the Primary computer. Clients and Hook locations
may be exported and imported by XML and CSV files respectively. This will enable you to quickly
copy the data to the Primary computer. However due to the nature of the Clients data type it is
possible that the process will create duplicate entries which will need to be manually removed.
(i) The Server already has InstaCode installed
If the computer that is going to be the InstaCode Data Server already has InstaCode installed,
the custom data from the Primary computer must be moved in to that computers current installation
of InstaCode prior to installing the new version of InstaCode (refer to the older version of
InstaCode’s help file for information relating to this). This is because the installation process
will automatically upgrade any present data. Once any custom data has been entered into the New
InstaCode no further information can be automatically upgraded.
(ii) The Server has not had InstaCode before
If the computer that is going to be the InstaCode Data Server has not had InstaCode installed previously,
the custom data from the Primary computer must be moved to the InstaCode Data Server after the installation
of the new InstaCode but prior to any custom data being entered. To do this, the contents of the Primary
computer’s InstaCode Custom folder (refer to the older version of InstaCode’s help file for information
relating to this) must be copied to the server and placed in the appropriate location for upgrading
(C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\App Data\WH Software\IC\9.0\UpgOld\ on Windows 2000 and XP)
(C:\ProgramData\WH Software\IC\9.0\UpgOld\ on Windows Vista and 7). The next time the new InstaCode
is run on that computer it will automatically upgrade and import the data.
Installing InstaCode
- Install InstaCode onto the computer that is to be used as the InstaCode Data Server
- Run ICSetup.exe with administrative rights (either downloaded or from the CD)
- Select the option “Server in network or multi-user installation”
- When the installation wizard gives a summary of the installation it is about to
perform, scroll to the bottom and make note of the “Server computer name”.
This will be required when performing the workstation installations.
- When InstaCode is run for the first time the program will prompt for the registration.
Enter the Company Name, Options and Registration exactly as it is provided to you.
- InstaCode shall then prompt you to activate the PC. This is not required for the
InstaCode Data Server to successfully distribute data to workstations on the network.
However for the InstaCode Data Server to also act as workstation the activation must be performed.
- Install InstaCode onto each of the computers that are to be used as Workstations.
- Run ICSetup.exe with administrative rights (either downloaded or from the CD)
- Select the option "Workstation in network or multi-user installation"
- The installation wizard shall request the "Server computer name".
This is the name that you took note of during the Server installation.
- InstaCode shall then prompt you to activate the PC. This is required for InstaCode to run.
- Check that all the shortcut icons open the correct version of InstaCode as some shortcut
icons that were manually created, may still link to the old version
